HaysKids Goals

-To create an assisted living center for those who have FASD, with both long and short term residents. -To reduce the effects of secondary disabilities which are inherent to those with Fetal Alcohol (such as trouble with the law and imprisonment, inappropriate sexual behavior, mental health issues, homelessness, victims of violence and scams, can’t keep a job, and early death.) -To create a safe, fun, stable, culturally sensitive, and meaningful place for its residents where their disability will be understood. -To create jobs and to do job training for its residents. -To teach life skills to its residents. -To raise the awareness about the interventions and supports necessary to maximize potential for each resident’s life. -To educate the public, especially those having or working with children or adults who have FASD, about day-to-day life skills, social and physical skills through public speaking, documentaries, pamphlets, and multimedia. -To work in partnership with other individuals, families and professional groups to determine methods and accompanying materials to assess, educate, and communicate the challenges facing those with fetal alcohol exposure issues. -To provide a setting for parents and professionals to come to work with, study, and learn about working with, living with, and loving those with FASD. -To give residents wilderness, local, and national sightseeing experiences. -To create a recreational-educational retreat center. -To create a retirement center for those in the Fetal Alcohol community (non-serious medical needs). -To become a role model for other centers. -To be available for “Academic based research” for the purpose of understanding and helping both people who have FASD and those working with those with FASD.
