The Daniel
The Daniel is a test designed to assess and then create an individual curriculum for teaching independent living skills.

This test is being provided by the Northland FASD Connection.
If you have any question about the test you can contact John Hays at 218-376-4501. If you are in the Duluth area you can contact Lynn Frigaard 218-726-4725 to get a copy of the test.

•Do not guess, if you do not know an answer leave it blank. It is important for us to know what areas you need to learn about. This is not a test to see what you know; rather it is a test to see what you need to learn.

•Do not become discouraged by the test. Even if you do not have the ability to do something now, it does not mean that you will not be able to learn the skill, or that you will not be able to do it later in life.

•This is a tool, it is part of the process of preparing you to live more independently. Even if you can score a 100% it does not mean that you are ready to move out. You must also be emotionally and behaviorally ready to move out.

•For some persons, living more independently will be living with assistance. It may mean having care providers helping you, living in an assisted living center, an adult foster home, with friend, relative, or at home.

•You do not have to know how to do every skill the test asks you about. You do need to know some of the skills and you need to know how to access help for others. For example, you do not have to understand the US Tax System. You do need to understand that when you get a job you will fill out a W2 form and that taxes will be taken out of your pay check. After the end of the year you will receive a form in the mail which you must keep, that you will then take to someone who will help you file your tax return.

Choosing test type:
•Objective Long or Short Form (written on a 5th grade level)
oCan either be given at specified computer station or
oGiven in a multiple choice written format
•Interview Assessments-ideal for persons with different reading and functioning levels

All three test come in both long and short form
• Long Form gives a more accurate evaluation
•Short Form recommended for younger persons or person who can not take a longer test.

After the person takes the test we will score it and give them an Assessment and then a Skill Plan.
